I am not sure that Spirituality exists in the sense of "spirits". I do believe in intelligence and more specifically consciousness. "I think, therefore I am" is actually a very profound thought, but understanding what this "thinking" is, seems difficult. I know it is different than randomness, or predeterminedness, yet I realize it is influenced by many things, and that even I only have influence over my thoughts, and not true control.

I also have witnessed events that have too much coincidence and meaning to call random, and I can only define with the word "synchronicity". So this brings me back to being someone "spiritual", but I don't need to define what that is. I only need to try to live the best life I can, and be as accurate as I can, and attempt to make sure I'm on the correct path with the correct aims as best as I can.

I do have some hunches, and hypothesizes about the nature of intelligence and the universe. I suspect that we will find that what we believe to be random in the nature of the atom, truly will turn out to be nano amounts of consciousness. But the method that it forms our consciousness and the greater consciousness that I believe we are part of (although I hesitate to believe that the greater consciousness is God as most people envision such an entity) is likely to be far more complex and intricate that the simplicities I can place in this paragraph, or possibly ever comprehend.

From this, I have decided to not just choose one path of philosophy or spirituality in this life, but identify with several, including being a Unitarian, a truth student Unitic (or as Rev. Mark Schindler says a "Born Again Integral Humanist"), minister in the Universal Life Church, member of the Church of Reality, and a Pastafarian.

I put no particular human on a pedestal or view them with mythical powers. I believe that all words are divinely inspired, and all people are capable of an innate power of good. From this, the following are some of the words of wisdom that I try to follow in my life, from some of the people that I respect as spiritual and philosophical teachers.

  • Thomas Jefferson - We hold these truths to be self evident that all [humans] are created equal.
  • The Dalai Lama - My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness.

Politics

Politics is the activation and application of philosophy to attempt to make change in the world. While I am often saddened by how the application is done by politicians, I am none the less still motivated to be active in my voice for changes that are part of my philosophy.
